Robert Butterfield brings 20 years of San Diego restaurant experience to his role as
owner of Parallel 33. After working at George's at the Cove and
Gustaf Anders in La Jolla, Butterfield opened and managed Cilantro's
- San Diego's first entry into "southwestern" cuisine. Butterfield
then opened, and for nine years managed, San Diego's first most
successful "pacific rim" restaurant - Cafe Japengo. His strong sense
of style and intimate knowledge of service and operations guided
Cafe Japengo to multiple awards and national acclaim. With his partner
and chef Amiko Gubbins (they have worked together for 14 years in
the above mentioned restaurants), Butterfield broke new ground with
the opening of Parallel 33. Located in San Diego on the 33rd parallel,
the restaurant combines the foods and architecture from other countries
that fall along that same parallel. Japan, China, India, the Middle
East, and Morocco are among the fortunate lands represented at Parallel
33.
